Good evening,

I have a 1TB WD drive that is having all kinds of issues. I have a lot of information on this drive, all of course important.

One problem I'm having w/ this drive is it will not copy to another harddrive for backup. When I try to drag copy to my external (or any drive for that matter) it pops up that it's calculating time/etc and then dissapears and does not copy anything.

Also, I am running HDClone 3.6professional edition to try to copy from booting off the cd (not in windows) and it's copying, but only at 44kb/sec. It says it will take 6000 hours to copy the data.

I need help guys/gals. Any input on this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

That's a big drive to copy. Is the drive full or is there room left on it. It shouldn't take 6000 hours to copy, but at that transfer rate it's possible. Is your external HDD usb or ESATA? If the drive is not full, you should partition it off into smaller partitions and perhaps use a program like Norton Ghost or Acronis to make an image of each partition. See what others say.

Thanks for the reply,

It's about 95% full. It's digressing daily. Now when I plug it in it's lost the drive volume name I had set, and I cannot access the data on the drive. The drive has not been dropped/damaged, i'm at a loss. I've had SO many problems w/ harddrives (all not even a year old yet) lately and it's getting rediculous.

Anyway, I ran the Wester Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics on it, and it finds the model number, couldn't find serial number, and SMART Status says unavailable. i'm running the quick test now from WD diag tools and will post results when it's finished. It's saying it has about 8 hours left.

Any insight / point in the right direction on anything that could help repair this drive would be greatly appreciated. I'm hard headed and have put off backups YET again even though i've been burned before. Staying too busy and hard-headedness can do that to you I suppose.

Any help is appreciated,

God bless,

Jon Rowe
