Drive not listed when trying to sync it with Virtual Machine

March 2, 2018 at 12:42:26
Specs: Windows xp
I followed paulsep's suggestion to sync up my CD-Rom drive with my Windows XP Virtual Drive (VirtualBox), I got to the point where I load my VirtualBox link and go to settings. Under storage, I am supposed to select my CD-Rom drive (F:) in the controller storage devices. My CD-Rom drive (F:) is not listed, so I can't select it. I tried to install a new device, but listed in the new window is a list of the various drives on my computer (C:, D:, E:, and G:, but not F:) What do I do here?

(btw, I replied this question to another question, but I am afraid that if I ask it in that previous question, users might not read it - I thought that my problem was fixed but another complication has come up. I am not trying to troll or spam or whatever it is called. I just need help with this current complication. I apologize if this angers anyone.)

This isn't a fix but a work-around until you sort it out.

Check which drives your VM can see, then in your regular OS, copy the contents of the CD-Rom drive to the drive visible in your VM and run the install from there.

You should not be using the settings here, but capture the CD drive whilst the Virtual Machine is running. You do this from the Devices menu in the VM window. (This is as explained in section 1.8.4 of the manual.) Do you not see the drive listed there? (You shouldn't see any hard disks listed in that menu.)

The video I watched about syncing my DC-Rom drive said to use the settings on the main VM page - where all of them listed when you load the VirtualBox program, I followed the instructions and when trying to list the controller drives, each drive of my computer is listed except my CD-Rom drive (Drive F:), I tried to add it but when I clicked on the add button, again, no F: Drive. Am I missing something?

"Am I missing something?"
Try with a CD in the drive.
