dpms off mode

Specs: Windows Vista
the other day my pc randomly shut down and now wont load up...i turn it on and it automatically says dpms going to off mode any suggestions? i have only just put in the new motherboard cpu and harddrive (2 weeks ago) what do i do

I've seen this happen many times with a RAM issue. The first thing you should try is resetting the BIOS to the default settings. There is usually a jumper on the motherboard for this, but refer to your manual (available from the Gigabyte website) for details.

Secondly, try removing/rearranging the memory modules. You may find that one stick or one slot has gone bad.

Your problem has nothing to do with RAM since DPMS stands for Display Power Management Signaling.

Yes, it's true the error message is technically related to the monitor not getting a proper video signal. However, aside from a damaged monitor or video card (which I personally have never seen), damaged or incorrect RAM seems to produce this behavior (at least 3 times I can remember when working with customer's PCs).

The other, easier thing you might check is to make sure the monitor cable is security connected on both ends, and then reset your monitor to the default configuration using the buttons on it.
