Habe you tried the Western with another usb cable? Perhaps the one that works with the Seagate?

Also is there any chance to try the Western (with both usb cables) on another computer. I doubt the Western will show up on another computer if not showing on the one in question; but then "who knows"...?

My experience with WD usb drives it that they generally work OK with a very short usb cable but not always with longer... And WD usually ship their usb drives with a short usb cable...

Thanks for your quick response. My laptop still runs on Windows 7 and the WD works fine on it. It is the desktop with Windows 10 that I am having issues with.

You may like to try installing the WD software for this drive if you have not already done so.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
I feel kinda sheepish...it isn't a bad USB cable. It's a bad USB plug on my Computer.
I tried another plug and everything works fine. Thanks for all your help.

We all been there... so don't beat yourself up or feel sheepish...

Sometimes it can be a combination of a given cable and its plug and a particular port on the computer. Another combination and it might not be an issue.
