Solved do you think it died

Specs: Windows 7
same problem with a WD5000AVDS 500 GIG DRIVE I think it is broken be cause it does not spin. performed all of the steps I could think of and the bios nor windows can see the drive

found a similar drive from a discarded dvr and had no problem formatting and using still today two years now.

Are you trying to use the 500GB as the only hard drive in the system or as a storage device?

That drive is not intended to be used as a boot drive. If you are connecting it as a second hard drive then look for it in Windows Disk Management. If it shows up there then you probably need to delete all partitions and start over. That can be done in Disk Management. If the drive is not rotating then it may be dead.

If the bios doesn't see it it's probably bad. I take it by adding the info about the other drive you mean you set it up the same as that one in bios setup?

since the drive can't be detected even by BIOS, so you the drive is dad. what you can do it throw it (if there is no important data on the drive), and buy a new one for your computer
