disk-based mp3 player

Specs: winxp, msi
Hi. I'm looking for a hard drive-based mp3 player that will read mp3's directly from an external usb disk.
I'm thinking of a fairly simple stand-alone device but with its own display. Flash memory isn't an issue here, nor is video content. Portability isn't an issue. Does anybody have any info please...or does such a device even exist?
P.S. If not with its own display, then a VGA output to monitor is also acceptable...I just dont want to have to fire up the TV to play a simple mp3 file

I only know of two as bought devices and one that can be later hacked to get to read usb. The hacked one is the nokia N series. It was possible to reverse the usb to act as a IF host.

They were the NEC P300 and I think an HP model PDA that had native usb support. Both out of date but may be working.
