The DVD drive on my laptop doesn't open when I press the button to open it, but will open if I use the manual "paper clip" method while the power is off. The disk does spin in the tray, but there is usually a light on the outside of the tray when the computer's on or when I try to open it - this is now off most of the time, only coming on before Vista starts, and then remaining off after the windows boot screen. Nothing happens if I put a new disk into the tray, except that it starts spinning. What do I do?? Any help would be much appreciated.
NB as far as I can tell the data cable is intact and connected, but I don't really want to risk opening up the laptop to get a closer look. Plus I have absolutely no idea how to remove or replace the drive.
Thanks
I thought on most laptops, you can move a lever to remove the
complete drive. As you don't post the make & model of laptop, I
can't help.I suggest you get a manual from the manufacturers website.
Sorry, I forgot to mention the model and make, the laptop is a Packard Bell EasyNote SJ51, and the Disk Drive's model is "NEC / Optiarc AD-5540A"
The PB website didn't offer much in the way of help other than the model of the Disk Drive...
Also the laptop manal itself doesn't have anything of use.
