Disk tray seems broken or deleted.

Dell / INSPIRON 6400
January 19, 2009 at 18:21:49
Specs: Windows XP, 2 Gb of Ram
I noticed that i can't open the disk tray by
pressing its button, so then i tried opening
it by going to "My computer" and selecting
the disk drive and right-clicking eject. But
there is no disk drive there....its gone. I
used a paper clip to open the disk manually,
i put in the CD that i wanted to install and
nothing. It's like the driver or something is
broken.

Im running a laptop. Dell Inspiron 6400.
Please help me.

If the drive tray doesn't work and you see no lights then either the power to drive is disconnected or the drive has died.

Is this a removable CD drive? Have you rebooted?

Look underneath and see if there's a little unlock slider that you can move. It sounds as if the eject button isn't making contact.

Check and see if the laptop is still under warranty. You might be able to get a replacement drive.
