Specs: Windows XP
Please, how connect external USB to P55TV2 Winco motherboard? I see on MB text USB1 near by 2x4 pins. I do not know orientation of my connector from USB - it has 2 columns. In first are 5 "female" for pins from MB and in second are 4 "female". Thank you very much for your help. lubom1@centrum.sk

First of all this is a public forum so you will not receive email response. I suggest you remove your email by editing your post, if you don't like spam.

Next thing is are you installing that board in an ATX case? If the link below looks like your board the board may be an AT board. Power supply and start wiring are not compatible in that event.

"The P55TV2 has been designed with Baby AT form-factor. The mainboard layout is shown in Figure 1-1".

Thank you very much for your prompt answer. I beg your pardon about my email in text of my question.
Well, I download manual of MB P55TV2 , but my connector USB look as no 2x10 pins, but 2x4 pins - from socket memory side is text USB2, from other side is USB1 - it is OK, but orientation for red cables I do not know - to rear wall of PC box or to front wall of the PC box? And near - dirrection to 1. PCI slot from memory sockets - are 1x5 pins - may be for led signalisation on my external 2 xUSB port. On this external port are 4 x LED (2x2).
What about this, please?
Best Regards!

Thank you very much for your prompt answer. By your picture I see pins 1,2 VCC - OK by me are have red color. And this one (single) 10 is in opposite side.
To this connector goes 2 gray cables with 4 + 4 cables from USB external ports. Problems is orientation - I have open ths PC box. I see "into", front is left, rear ie right.
From my body are ... first power socket, memory slots, ..., USB set pins, from left 2 pins, 2 pins, 2 pins, 2 pins to right as one set of pins (in two lines from left - front to right- rear side), then is other set from left 1pin, 1pin, 1pin, 1pin, 1 pin (5 pins in one line from left - front to right- rear side). Thise lines are begin in one line from left side. So, lines up to USB lines is 1 pin large to right direction.
If it is for LED signalisation ...?... from LED of my external USB ports go away cables same as from USB ... end is in connector 2x5 pins (4+5, one is without cable). What I connect to this "1 line" set of pins, left side or right side?
I affraid, that damage something, because the USB ports have 5 V signal - when "go" in no good pins ... what happened ?
Thanks you for all help.

There is a good chance of damaging the USB controller. Unfortunately when USB first appeared there was no standardization. Without a pin out manual for your board there is no surefire way to know.

Are there any USB ports coming off the back of the motherboard?

You did not answer my question above but I assume my link is not for your board because it has a different type USB header than you describe.

The standard 2 rows of five sometimes uses 1 ground and ignores the 10th pin. In your case I suspect the 9th ground pin is not being used so only 8 pins. Which way to connect is still a crap shoot.

If that is the only USB connection on the board then even if you damage the controller there is no harm. The problem is you might damage the USB device you connect. Wiring wrong will not cause any problem until a device is connected.

I once fried a USB hardware dongle that way. If you really need USB then maybe your best option is to add in a card. That assumes you have a free PCI slot.

Dear OtheHill,
Are there any USB ports coming off the back of the motherboard? NO
Well, I ended, it is true. It is old PC, I am counting every € (I am teacher ...). I must give money - maybe as 1 week foot - to PCI USB - this PC is for the son. He need printer with usb connect only - it is "joke" too. This printer has software error - prints one page and write message - problem with paper - missing or jamming. Open and close printer, message go away and oncemore - print 1 page and obtain it ... Therefor is for me from firm. All is so, so ...the people without money ... ha, ha, ...
BEST REGARDS!

I am guessing that English is not your first language? Click on the link below to see what a PCI slot on the motherboard looks like. Click on each image in the link to enlarge it.

Then click on the second link to see what a USB add in card looks like and how much it might cost. The link for the USB card is with a USA company and is just for reference if you are not in the USA.
