Dell laptop battery not charging beyond 3%

October 13, 2010 at 12:23:34
Specs: Windows Vista
I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.

I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.

I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.

Thanks a lot.

... if the laptop works ok with the adapter hooked up I'd say it's a "naff" battery

... sounds like you use it a lot just using the battery(?)

I never use it without it plugged in. I'll buy a new battery and see if that works. Thanks.

"...I never use it without it plugged in..."

... I can'nt believe you're going to buy a battery, what on earth for?

... if you use it only "plugged-in" why waste bucks?

... guess you could keep it in a draw for future use!

Because the charger often falls out so the laptop automatically shuts off, which is annoying enough for me to buy a new battery.

"I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years"
Obviously the battery is dying for li-ion power only support 2-year normal charging life.
"Because the charger often falls out so the laptop automatically shuts off, which is annoying enough for me to buy a new battery. "
you may also take a ups instead of buying a new dell 1525 battery.
or take a discount saving dollars like:

I would check the dell site for battery recalls. I just had a clients battery replaced on her dell laptop for free as there was a recall on it. They overnighted me a new one, no charge.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
