I'm not aware of anything I've done to cause this failure and no, I have not been inside the case....yet. I just went to the geek squad guys (Best Buy) and described the sound the drive was making and he assured me that the drive was failing mechanically so I bought a new one. I've got 30 days to return it if there is some way of salvaging the old one and determining that there are still many years of use left in it. Thanks for the quick reply.
I replace the drive this morning and everything works fine. Is this all I need to do to close this ticket? This is my first time using Computing.net. Thank you riider for trying to help me with this repair. Cheers.
