What did you have to do to replace the CMOS battery? Was it easy to get to or did you have to take the laptop apart? Sounds like you were pretty rough if you broke the battery holder. Could it be you damaged something else too?

cmos battery was easy to get to - just had to take off back and did so with little effort. i think part of it might have been broken off as i have heard a rattle in the laptop for some time. i'm almost certain nothing else was damaged. just a little piece of plastic that held battery in place. the metal terminals are still in place.

It seems the only thing that could of gone wrong is you disturbed a wire or something when changing the battery. Do you have a monitor you can temporarily connect to the laptop? Maybe that will allow you to bring up the display, then you can enter the BIOS & adjust any settings that may have changed when the battery was swapped.
