Dead Toshiba Laptop

Specs: Windows 7
So here's the problem, I have a Toshiba laptop and my adapter wasn't functioning so I purchased a universal adapter and the universal adapter fryed my laptop so I went and purchased a new laptop and now my concern is how do I transfer my data from my dead laptop to my new one? Is it that simple to remove my hard drive from my old laptop and connect it with a SATA? And since my old laptop was fryed is the files and data still alive? PLEASE HELP ME!!

If the hard drive in your dead laptop is still OK, you can remove the drive, put it in a 2.5" external drive enclosure, plug the enclosure's USB cable into a USB port on the new laptop, and you should be able to recover the files from the original hard drive.
