For gaming Q9300 will have the advantage.

DDR2 1066 is not supported plus most of them are factory overclocked which use high voltage(2.0 - 2.2v).
For core architecture CPU's(c2d, c2q etc) it is recommended to use ratio 1:1 or 1:2, for 1333 FSB CPU u will need DDR2 667(ratio 1:1) or DDR 1333(ratio 1:2).
Most OEM BIOS don't allow to under-clock the memory clock so it is better to get DDR2 667 and not DDR2 800.

What's the purpose of the upgrade? I did a quick search on those CPUs & unless you're buying a used one, you're probably going to be paying more than $200. That's a lot to invest in an outdated system. You didn't state how much RAM you currently have or at what speed, but if you still have just 1GB DDR2-800, upgrading to 4GB would make sense. Do you still have the small 80GB HDD? Did you install a video card or are you still using the onboard graphics?

Yeah, they're pretty expensive. These are probably the best prices you'll find...

What about the questions from riider? Have you upgraded memory, hdd, and graphics?

And...listen to kuwese concerning memory choices.

you have to stay with DDR2 and you can't run DDR3 with that motherboard.
just make sure your running your RAM in dual channel mode and it will do.
not much gain to be had from your current RAM and anything else.
that will require a DDR3 motherboard anyways.
