Cut test error does not feed paper ribbon fill out at pen

February 1, 2012 at 20:55:03
Specs: Windows 7
I have a lynx S-60 vinyl cutter plotter and the ribbon fell out that is attached to the cutter. It was feeding the paper and I cleaned the Plotter cause it was dirty. I hope I was careful not getting and cleaner into any components. Cleaned the outside only. Now it is not feeding the media and the pen goes back and forth, then the CUT TEST button lights up and the error button lights up red. Would there be a problem with the ribbon might of snagged pulled out I put it back in and taped it so it will not rip out anymore. Should I get another ribbon or what is my problem

Hi Bruce,

by ribbon I presume you mean ribbon cable, sometimes called stripline.

These cables are delicate and should not 'fall out' and not need taping in. Once properly connected it should remain so.

The fault symptoms suggest it is damaged or not connected properly as some control signals are failing. There may be a locking mechanism in the connector it plugs into.

On the cleaning issue, what did you use?

Did you follow Chapter 5 of the manual?

To much or the wrong liquid, could cause a problem.

For the exterior of a device, I use a white cloth or white kitchen roll lightly dampened with surgical spirit for this. Avoiding any printing on the casing.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
