cpu usage shoots to 100%n hangs the lappy

Specs: Windows Vista
as i was looking for a solution to my problem o found this post which is very much similar to mine even i plug out every pen drive or the external hard disk and it comes to life after a minute or 2 .but why does this problem surfaces in the first place , the cp usage suddenly boosts to 100%, which i heard could be due to a virus problem but i tested this by running recovery twice but the problem still persists pls help .. ""have been experiencing this wird problem for quite some time. The thing is my system usually freezes at frequent intervels, right from booting. Sometimes the screen goes blank, and strange sounds appear to be coming out from hard disk. This can happen at any point of time while the system is running. When the windows has been loaded, and even some applications are running, suddenly the windows freezes, and the strange sounds return.

The solution (which is a temporary one) is that I plug in- plug out my SATA 80 GB HDD, for some time (like 5-10 times, no limit as such), and the system or windows unfreezes and starts working properly, but the problem resurfaces again after 10 to 15 minutes...

I want to know what exactly is this, as I have changed my HDD with the vendor, but the problem still exists with the new one too...

mine is a dv6703 1.66ghz intel core 2 duo processor with 2 gb ram n 160 hdd

Sounds like your SATA controller is failing. Try it in another computer to make sure.

USB external drives don't use the SATA controller.

I suggest you clean your system of any temp files and malware as a first step. Get both Ccleaner Slim and Malwarebytes from the links below and use them.

With Cleaner Slim run BOTH the cleaner module and the registry module.
