cord has broken where it inserts to hard drive

Specs: Windows 10
Is it possible to purchase a new cord to connect the device to my laptop? The connector has broken and I need to be able to access information on the hard drive

It might help if we knew a little bit more about the problem.

Are you talking about an internal hard drive? You opened
the laptop, disconnected the hard drive, and the connector
broke?

The power cable or the data cable?

Knowing the make and model number of the laptop would
make it possible to find the service manual online, which
will show the part numbers of the cable or other parts that
need to be ordered.

Or is this an external hard drive?

Is it a cable with a single USB plug or a Y-cable with 2 USB plugs?

You're going to have to find a place that sells them, either locally or online. Does this one have the right style plug for the HDD? https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com...

If per chance your drive has a usb-a not a usb-b input, then there are adapter plugs to solve that. But likely the one jam has suggested is what will work as is..

Star Tech is one source I’ve used in the past and has good, reliable products.

Cable Matters is another.

Thank you - I have ordered the option you provided from Amazon. I It looks like the one I have now, with the exception that both of the USB cables I have are black - but I'm hoping color will not matter. I appreciate you locating it because even though I looked at Amazon I could not find it - but I may not have been requesting the right name of the item. Thanks again - cable is scheduled for delivery on Sunday 1/31 - I'll let you know if that doesn't work. Thanks again!

The red end is the one I consider as power, should I need to use it. Sometimes/usually these drives will work without the use of a second USB port (to provide power). Equally if I use an external (mains) usb power source, the red is the one I plug into that.
