Specs: Vista, Core2 duo/4gig
Dell Studio 540 crashed. Upon restart, the cpu fan runs, case fan (connected to mb) starts then stops. No beeps heard, no monitor boot etc. Tried another psu. Same result. Tried different configs of ram. No diff. Tried HD in other puter, is ok. Motherboard? Or?

I would reset the cmos and try again. If that doesn't work I usually try to remove all the connections to the motherboard except for the 24 pin connector, cpu power, and video card power. Reset the CMOS again and try booting. If that doesn't work remove the motherboard from the chassis put it on a box or wooden bench reconnect the power connections reset the cmos and try rebooting. If that doesn't remove the memory and see if you get any beeps. If no responses change the motherboard.

I went through everything and still no good.
So I replaced the motherboard and all is well again.
