Hello, all of a sudden my computer switched off and when I try and switch it on, it stays on for a few seconds and then shuts down and makes a long beep until I take out the power plug out. The fan works but stops just before the computer shuts down and there is no way to open the computer up to try and clean the dust off the fan. Its an HP Pavilion. Please help me.thank yoy

Is it a LAPTOP or DESKTOP ?!

Desktop are easy to open up, provided you know how to.
Laptop get too tricky ... anyway!!

Did you do any manual changes to the system before the problem occured?!
Did you install any particular software or updates before the issue ?!
Is there a sequenze of beeps (if so, how many) or only one long beep ?

Its a notebook and I was just simply on the internet when it happened. Didn't update or install anything. The beep is just one beep but continuous until I take out the power plug from it.

Can you privide the full name / model of the notebook please.
In meantime ... did you try and perform a SYSTEM RESTORE!?

Beep tones, usually refers to HARDWARE issues
and the sequenze of beeps can tell what type of hardware "is in pain" lol

That is one reason why I do not prefer laptops lol
they are cool to carry with you but if one thing does not work ... its just a mess lol

Usually a single long beep (followed by two short beeps) indicates that a video error has occured and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information.

You can try the follwing:

- Remove the RAM slots and put them back in
- Remove and replace the HDD

BEFORE YOU DO THIS: REMOVE THE BATTERY!!

===========================================

By the way, are you able to go into SAFE MODE ??
As soon as you press the POWER ON button ... keep tabing the
F8 key a few times untill you see ADVANCED MODE.

Try this and let me know :)

Uhmm could it be the battery being flat, because before it all happened, it told me that the power supply was on but wasn't charging. And I tried the F8 but it won't give time as it switches off immediately.
Thanks for helping me by the way

Apparently they told us its the motherboard, could that be it? If yes what do we do?

Sounds like the power supply unit is playing up. That could be why the fan stops just before it powers off and why it doesn't charge.

Whatever, it is almost certainly a hardware issue and if you are not conversant with that side of things then it looks like it will need to go to the repair shop.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
