Asus K8v-x se deluxe amd socket 754 moth...
January 2, 2010 at 22:38:30
Specs: Windows XP, 1024
I need a little bit of clarification with following.

1.DDR3 1066/1300/1800/1333 how does this work/not work according to motherboard ?

2. If MOBO states support for 6 x SATA II and 1 X UtraDMA under the heading STORAGE, is this bad news for my one IDE and two SATA I drives, do I need to be vary careful here ? Are Sata II conections backwards compatible ?

3. Consider the AthlonII 250 Dual Core 2meg 3Ghtz
and AthlonII 620 Quad core 2Meg 2.6 which of these is superior for FPS games ?(if either)

4. Windows 7 drivers with MOBO ? This seems no big deal at all as those I know that have upgraded to WIN7 have done it easy on old systems claiming better performance than XP. So I would think this can be ignored, its just marketing ?

5. This ASUS M4A78LT-M-LE Motherboard is the cheapest AM3 at $81. It has onboard radeon 3000, which might not be great but I will be able to get a card soon. Why pay extra as the best I have SEEN so far is HD4200 and why pay extra when its going to be upgraded in a couple of month.

6. It supports crossfire. Is it better to get the best card you can afford or two cheaper ?

7. What is HDMI media technology, does that refer to extra ports and or the software used . I think Ive gone this long without it I'll be ok missing out! The board above supports multiple output ports anyhow.

8.Firewire seems not so common. Is it becoming less so these days ? I have a video camera which needs it but perhaps I am better off just buying a card rather trying to find a mobo with it on.

There are a lot of latest good and cheap mobo available, take example of "msi 785gm-e51" the board support ddr3 plus hd 4200 onboard for $79.99. U mention cpu for gaming? Take eg of phenom II x2 550be this cpu will be faster than athlon II X2 250/X4 620 plus u can take advantage of unlocked mult to overclock it.There's no problem finding win 7 drivers for newer boards(chipset).SATA II ports? u can use sata I device in sata II ports and not bad news 4 your ide device u can still use it. What is hdmi . Both crossfire and sli is a waste of money, u better buy one good perfomance card. What about psu? Psu is a very important hardware so dont buy a cheap one. Before buying one post the name and specs here. What are u planning for video card? If u will buy board that support ddr3 plus phenom II go 4 ddr3 1333 (2x2gb) or if u decide to stick with athlons go for ddr2 800 (2x2gb)

I should have mentioned im in queensland/australia when I posted an amount. Ill have a look at that board u mentioned.

The two processors I mentioned were $90 and $130. (au) I want to spend no more than that. If there is not much diff ill get the cheaper.

Thankyou for clearing up the SATA I, II.

The Phenom 544 Dual, 7Meg Cache,3Ghz is only $109au, sounds good. I'd missed it from the site I am buying from(cheapest here) its onlky 0.1 slower.

This looks good too ,ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO. It has HD4200 vid to get me by for a couple months and firewire and comes with novice proof Overclocking Applet screen shots are cool of OC program. It's $130au which is a few dollars more than I intended but what it has will actually save money really.

Post a link to the site you plan on buying from & let one of us come up with some possible configurations for you. No offense, but I've followed your other posts & you don't seem to know what you're doing. At the rate you're going, you're gonna end up spending way more than you have to for a system that will be poorly configured.

Not offended. Too much truth in the statement. Will be some difficult hours ahead in the building so any help in choosing parts great! I use they are best value every time.

That mobo i have mentioned M4A785TD-V also has firewire, sideport 128meg DDR. Decent review

Above was an interesting review of Quad Vs Dual. Bang for buck I am sticking with my Phenom Dual.

I have been advised against building my own system but in my defense I am aware of the difficulties ahead from how hard I found building my current system. Had to get someone to finish it off.

Unless I get advise otherwise I am going to stick with the mobo above. It does not have a serial or parallel port. Both of which I have used for experiments with electronics. But USB adapters also work well for serial.
(in 2007 while still on the farm, I was working on building an electrical flight sim platform, got as far as retooling the shed ordering steel and making a dodgy C# program)
Can someone also confirm again that my SATA drives will be compatible with SATA II mobo.
