Computer on light flashes when I plug it in

January 22, 2011 at 04:24:28
Specs: Windows XP
When I plug the computer (HP Pavilion) in the on switch light starts flashing continuously.

This is before I even try to switch it on. In this state it doesn't respond to anything and can't be switched on so it's not even trying to go through a boot sequence. It just flashes at me.

Both fans in the casing are trying to turn but it's like someone is just switching everything on and off very quickly - except I'm not!!

We have no idea how old your PC is but I would guess that the power supply is failing.

I have the same problem on my PC. It started after I exchanged power supplys with a PC that had failed. I thought the power supply was good because its fuse was ok. I was testing it in a good PC. The power supply must have been bad because I believe it destroyed the mobo in my PC. Now the lighe on the front of the PC only flashes and the fans on the mobo try to operate but don"t.

Thanks for the help.
I've ordered a new PSU off ebay. I'll try that as it's a low cost option.
Any chance the Motherboard could have gone too?
