Computer not powering up anymore

June 4, 2009 at 07:50:36
Specs: Windows 2000
I have quite an old packard bell computer. When I bought this over 5 years ago it cost me over £1500. Anyway all been fine until two days ago it just died. I tried to switch on like normal but nothing, the switch was always a bit stiff. Would normally feel it power immediately upon touching switch but the blue light comes on and you hear the computer start to run then within 2 seconds the light goes off and nothing runs. I have taken the front cover off and checked the switch but doesn't seem to look broken, although I have no idea. I gave it a good clean as dusty inside then checked power supply. I am really concerned as I was going to backup and transfer alot of data onto my laptop. Any help would be appreciated. Husband just been made redundant, his cv and job applications all held on this computer, little money to spend on new or repair. Please help.

The best solution to this would actually require another desktop computer - not a laptop. Take out your old hard drive and install it in another computer and transfer the data to a cd and then copy it into your laptop. If you dont have another computer available then you can but an external USB IDE Hard Drive controller. Here is one on newegg ->

Good Luck. PM me if you need more help.
