Computer monitor says no signal detected

Specs: Windows vista
My computer was working just fine when my monitor stopped working. I'm not technical at all and don't know the names of things, sorry. I had the normal blue plugs on the lead I was using. Somebody told me it was the monitor port do I bought a new monitor and a new different cable (VGA?) . This worked fine for the last month but now the new monitor is saying the same thing. I have a Benq et-ok-26n LCD monitor. Norton was blocking a Trojan virus that it couldn't remove. Could this have something to do with it? And how do I remove it if I can't see anything. Please help, I have a little boy that needs to do his homework. Thank you

The monitor is working fine, it's just not receiving a video signal. That means the problem is with the tower. It could be just about anything - bad power supply, bad processor, bad motherboard, bad video card, etc. The only thing that does NOT seem to have a problem is the montior. And I doubt there was anything wrong with the old monitor either.

We need to know your system specs & a more detailed explanation of the problem. For instance, do you hear any beeps when you 1st power on the system?

BTW, it has nothing to do with a virus either.
