Computer Goes off

May 16, 2009 at 19:28:36
Specs: Windows VIsta Business
A few days ago my computer just started going off, not shutting of just stopping. It was a random shut down. I then tried to reload it and it worked but shut down again, after a while it would not even get past the loading screen. I then tried to reformat the hard drive but it would not stop shutting down long enough for the software to download properly. The computer finally loaded but it kept restaring. It is now going off again.

I have an Hp personal laptop and as far as I can tell the battery is full, unless that was another glitch. I have had the laptop for about 3 years.

You have a hardware problem, why would you try to reload the OS?? Sounds like the CPU is overheating. Try blowing the dust out of the cooling vents. Are you sure the CPU cooling fan is working?

Thanks for the advice, but cooling fan should be working because the computer doesnt feel hotter than it usually does.

Have you blown the dust out in the 3 years you've owned it? have you checked the temperature readings in the BIOS?
