Computer freezing on start-up

June 7, 2011 at 09:11:34
Specs: Windows 7, AMD Phenom II X2 555/4096
I've had this computer (made by a friend, everything is new) for about 2 months. A month ago my computer would completely freeze while playing WoW (I had to do a reboot to get back) so I thought it was that game. It was random; from immediately to a few hours. Then it began happening on all my games. About 2 weeks ago it began freezing during video playback, then certain websites and now it simply freezes whenever, even just on the desktop with nothing running. I can't even use the computer now unless I uninstall all the drivers or it'll freeze as soon as windows loads.

Here's my specs:

ASRock 870 Extreme3
AMD Phenom II X2 555
4096MB DDR3
Nvidia Geforce GTS 450
650W PSU

The temps all seem fine (40-47 C) even when running a game. I updated drivers, rollbacked drivers, used system recovery, reinstalled windows, disabled the sound to see if that was it, tested the RAM, Each time I tried different drivers, I did a clean install of dice. I'm out of ideas, can someone suggest what it might be?

System Freeze ups are one of the most difficult & time consuming things to troubleshoot.

See response #1 FWIW:

I've never played WoW, make sure the game is Windows 7 compliant, that all game updates and patches are current too.

MOOOOooove! OH and you're welcome!

Thanks. I've updated drivers and all the games are Windows 7 compliant. Updated the bios, too. If I enable the video card (it's disabled atm) or the drivers, the system immediately crashes. Do you think that it would be the video card that's causing it or the motherboard? Or is it too vague to really tell?

Yep, sounds like your NVIDIA card is the issue. I'd check the Nvidia forums...

Do you have another vid card to test with?
