Computer freezes every 3 minutes for about 3-

Specs: Windows XP, 638MB of RAM
So, I've got a problem here. I'm not sure when it started. About a week and a half ago, I suppose. Anyway, it's not specific what I'm doing when it freezes for anywhere between 3-8 seconds. It doesn't freeze when I'm just surfing, it freezes when playing games such as Frets on Fire or Audiosurf, or an NES emulator. It really is annoying and I'd like your help diagnosing the problem and fixing it. I've tried searching the registry for errors and defragging it. Any help is appreciated.

Your system is probably infected. Run a full virus & malware scan.

I've tried. It comes up with nothing. I had an infection of Internet Security 2010 back in January, 4 days after I got the machine. I removed it easily though, and the problem only started about a week ago.

Which anti-vrius program are you using? Which anti-spy / anti-malware program?

I use Avast for my real-time protection, and I use Malware Byte's Anti Malware for scans.

could be overheating, try taking the side off & blowing it out.
Don't use a vacuum cleaner.

I've had the problem of computer freezing for 10-15 seconds before continuing. I've reached out to everyone for help. This problem has been biting at me for about 2 years but I just dealt with the problem because it only affected my videos and not internet surfing. I've tried everything from upgrading my internet speed, purchasing and running virus scanners and protection, to upgrading video grafic cards. You name it and I did it but nothing seems to fix my problem until a few days ago. I was in a forum and asked the question of concern as to why my fan keep coming on. I came across this post where this lady suggested that I open my computer and take my vaccum cleaner and attached the small suction attachment hose to it and clean my fan. I did that along with turning the fan as I suction so that I may get all of the dust covering the vents. I did that along with suctioning the entire system. To my surprise, my fan doesn't come on anymore and my videos doesnt freeze. Im over joyed at what has become of my system after a thorough cleaning of the fans. Your system may have more than 1 fan so make sure that you clean everything while you have them open and exposed. Im almost sure that this will do the trick.
