I just bought a new gateway computer and it worked great the first week. After I had a professional transfer my files from my old computer to my new one (my last comp fan died therefore it did not turn on and I had all my previous data/files on its hdd) i noticed that my computer fan runs on and off consistently, every 2-3 mins its on and then off. I know that is is def not right, and it gets very annoying! and I know it is def not overheating.... please help!
If you are placing the laptop on a soft surface like your lap then it will do that. The fan is set to run only when needed and should be variable speed. If you hear it you may be restricting airflow under the unit. Place on a hard flat surface.
"and I know it is def not overheating" Explain how you know that?
to elaborate on the fan problem here actually overheating does occur when u start up the system. It also occurs when u load ur system which causes sometimes BSOD's, and its placed on a cloth or on ur lab which is not good for u"biologically" and for the labtop. another thing did u check that the fan did not accidentally move from its postion? did u check that the fan is getting enough power from the labtops powersupply that all cables inside the labtop are plugged in?
