There is no way to turn on the fan. Are you having problems because of it, like shutting down.

"It had a loose ac cord switch and shut down during some updates"

What does that mean? The AC cord plugs into plugs into the power supply, the power supply plugs into the motherboard. The "switch" to turn the system on/off is in the computer case & also connects to the motherboard. These types of switches don't go bad. Could it be whoever you had work on the computer forgot to plug the fan in? Or could it be your system has a "smart fan" feature & it only kicks on when the CPU reaches a certain temperature?

"any way that was fixed and had to get a re install"

Reinstall what? Windows? Repairing a "switch" does NOT require reinstalling any software. Who worked on this thing?

And apparently you didn't feel mentioning whether you have a desktop or laptop or the make/model was important?
