Go to the control panel>Administrative tools>computer management>Disk Management. You should see your 1tb drive listed in the bottom section once your drive info loads. I think the problem (reply if I'm incorrect), is; the drive has not been partitioned or formatted for use which you must do to a new hard drive. You can right click on the hard drive and select format option, it will bring up the maximum partition size and create the partition and format the drive. Before just formatting.......This is the time where you decide if you wish to leave it as one large partition of perhaps split the 1tb into smaller partitions. There are advantages in both ways, I would suggest splitting it in two at-least, and you can have no more than 4. To make a partition with the drive still blank, you "right click" on the blank and "create new partition". There is a link to a solution fron another tech on partitions I'll post if you need more explanation, but basically right click and you adjust the maximum number in half to allow for two partitions. You can just have one large partition it's just not my own preference.

Keep in mind formatting a hard drive erases any existing information, however in your case I guess it's blank so no worry.
