Computer doesn't keep time when off

Specs: Windows XP
Hi,

I am running an old HP Pentium 4 3.8GHz 2MB RAM XP SP3.
When I turn off my computer its doesn't keep time so that the next time I power up it shows the time and date when I last used it. When the computer is on it keeps time fine. I replaced the CMOS battery which didn't help. I'm more curious than anything else but if there is a cheap quick fix I'll do it.

Thanks in advance.

The problem is almost always due to a BIOS battery. Certain the connection is good? Polarity correct? Dead when purchased?

Hi,

I tested the old battery (dead) and the new one (fine).
Reseated it, gave it a good push.
Did a quick power off to test and its seems to hold time now.
Will leave it off over night to see for sure.

Thanks!

Nope
Computer still doesn't keep time even with a new battery.
Any ideas?
