Hi,

I was given a Compaq Presario 972. I'm trying to find the hard drive in it so I can get the files off of it.

Thanks in advance!

Well, open up the case and it'll be there, if it wasn't previously removed.

How do you plan on copying the files? Pull the drive out and attach it as a second drive in another computer? Or, if the 972's drive is working, do you plan on copying to another drive using the 972?

I'm thinking of pulling the drive out, putting it in an enclosure, and pulling off the files that way. Normally you can see where the hard drive is, especially on "newer" models, but this one's 1995. Maybe it's Smithsonian material?

If it's tower look above the power supply and cdrom. Sometimes they're hidden there. But otherwise, just follow the 40-wire data cables. If the drive is there, one of the cables will connect to it.

Perfect!

Followed the insturctions, and there it was!

With many towers, you can see where it is no problem. This one was hidden.

Fate accompli!

Thanks!
