Compaq laptop not booting

Hewlitt packard compaq / Cq50 110us

Specs: Windows Vista
Alright, had a condition with no start up. Same like everyone says where there is LED activity and the power button/wifi button are lit but orange instead of blue. No screen etc. All sign pointed to board level failure. Just replaced the board, worked long enough to reinstall a fresh version of Vista. When it tried to restart, it wouldnt. Now, the charger light will not illiminate when plugged in, will not boot, no display. Can someone please offer some advice? I'm a computer major in college and this is throwing me for a loop. Ram removed, the power light will flash etc so i know that the new board is working. I'm totally confused. Tried to start without any accessories, (hardrive, wifi etc removed) and no luck. PLEASE HELP

90 percent of computer failures or problems are power related. Computers are very sensitive to voltages and amps. Like toxic said, it's probably your psu. Off the shelf machines often use crappy power supplies.

im afraid i dont fully understand the power supply of a laptop. This particular one has a seperate adapter for the actual plug and the plug for the fan comes right of the board I dont see any kind of external power supply. Also, there is an led right by the actual plug in and an led on the front. (the little compaq lightning bolt). The LED by the plug comes on but the lightning bolt is no longer lighting up. this is the most confusing laptop problem ive seen so far.

Could be the power inverter on the mb of the laptop. If that's shot you're out of luck for awhile.
