Compaq evo power up problems

June 10, 2013 at 07:50:37
Specs: Windows XP, 640.0 mb
My compaq evo has a new HP battery for that model. The battery is charged up and I calibrated it based on what the (F-12) set-up instructions said it completed dischraged the battery and I recharged it. However, the laptop will not stay on unless it is plugged in. Once you remove the cord it powers off even though the battery says its 100% charged. Any suggestions?

Is the battery an HP brand or from a third party vendor?

... also make sure the battery connections are sound.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

All the connections are sound. Im puzzled because I had another identical model laptop. Do you think there are some manufacturer hardware/software updates involving the battery power management?

Its a compaq evo n600C. Running XP on it. Did you need the asset tag?

You didn't answer my question about the source of the battery.

Go to the link and download any updates for your laptop. Are you running SP3?

Entering the service tag, or allowing a scan will produce the best results.

The battery is an HP brand exactly the same as the original battery. The original battery that was in there was completely dead. It wouldn't keep any time or date before I got this new battery.

The date and time thing is probably the cmos battery. I don't think that's related to your problem unless there's some charging options in cmos/bios setup.

You mentioned F12 setup instructions for the battery. I wouldn't think that charging a battery would be that complicated but you might want to look that over again. Check the manual for the laptop too for any additional help.
