Specs: Windows vista
I have a Compaq Presario f700 that has a black screen when booting up. I have discharged the caps, tried f8 key when booting up, f1 on boot to change the boot order, but there is nothing but a black screen. I can hear the hard drive working. I tried booting up to a recover CD after taking out the hard drive, Nothing has worked. I had this problem a week ago and fixed it by using a recover disk. It is not working this time. also tried using a different monitor, still have a black screen.

Hi there

if you didn#t got display on external monitor then there is a problem with your system VGA chip and it needs to be repaired/replaced. Visit any local computer shop and they will do it for you.

Best of luck

Apparently Presario F700 is a laptop (notebook).

Laptop no video (or video problems), and battery, AC adapter, power jack T shooting.

See response 1:

DO NOT plug in or unplug a monitor's video cable into / from a video port while the computer is running. Doing so can damage the monitor's circuits and/or the video adapter's circuits.

Some laptops will display on an external monitor without you having to do anything.

If you get no video on an external monitor, some laptops have a key combo that you must press to toggle the display to external video only / sometimes both / built in display video only - see the Owner's or User's manual for the model.

If that doesn't help, in almost all cases the video adapter on a laptop is built into the mboard (unless it's a much more expensive high end model) - in that case, you must replace the motherboard.
