Commodore 128 Black Screen

Specs: Commodore ROM BASIC, MOS 8502 / 128 Kb
Hi. I have a Commodore 128 that will not work. I plugged it into both a TV and a Monochrome monitor, and saw nothing on the screen. I got no post or anything. The power light came on, but I didn't see or hear anything. I do know that it is stock, except for a Jiffy-DOS upgrade pack with a 64k chip and a 128k chip connected by a toggle switch. That's all I know. I tried to 40/80 Screen button, but still got nothing. Any help would be appreciated. THANK YOU! :)

The tv of course would need to be the older analog type. I assume the 128 has the RCA output like the c-64 does for the TV connection. Does the 128 have a regular monitor connection? There's more than one type of 'monochrome' monitor so make sure it's compatible.

Yes, it has a monochrome monitor connector, but I tried it with an IBM 5151 monitor and nothing happened. I also tried it with the RCA plugs on an old TV, but still got nothing. I don't hear any beeps either. The only thing that happens when I turn it on, is the power light comes on.

I've only used a c-64 but I've got a 128 and/or amiga out in the garage. There's a good chance it's not supposed to beep so don't go by that. I'm not sure about monitor compatibility. It may not be compatible with even the old IBM pinout. My c-64 worked fine with the RCA video connector. I had one of those slide switches to change between the antenna and computer.

I'm not sure if you can damage anything, but it's probably best not to switch the 40/80 columns while it's running.

The c-64 boots straight to a BASIC screen with a blue blackground (I think) but it only shows its identification at the top of the screen. If by chance the commodore screen is larger than the tv screen you may not see anything on it. Try typing a bunch of letters and see if it scrolls down to where you can see it.

Of course it may just be bad.
