|I've only used a c-64 but I've got a 128 and/or amiga out in the garage. There's a good chance it's not supposed to beep so don't go by that. I'm not sure about monitor compatibility. It may not be compatible with even the old IBM pinout. My c-64 worked fine with the RCA video connector. I had one of those slide switches to change between the antenna and computer.|
I'm not sure if you can damage anything, but it's probably best not to switch the 40/80 columns while it's running.
The c-64 boots straight to a BASIC screen with a blue blackground (I think) but it only shows its identification at the top of the screen. If by chance the commodore screen is larger than the tv screen you may not see anything on it. Try typing a bunch of letters and see if it scrolls down to where you can see it.
Of course it may just be bad.
