clicking noise on hdd and no boot cd toshiba

Specs: Windows XP
Using a toshiba satellite a40/a45 laptop..started making a clicking noise and will not boot. when trying to load original recovery software it says no bootable cd in atapi cdrom. have been running Ubuntu "Linux" OP. Thx for any feedback!

clicking noise from hdd isn't good, stop using it if u want to save data.

Clicking means the HDD is shot. If you have important data that you need to get off of it, stop using it immediately. The more you use it, the less chance the files will be accessible. Remove it from the laptop, slave it off another system & see if you can retrieve your files.
