Changing hd from one computer to another

Specs: Windows XP
I HAVE A HD FROM MY OLD COMPUTER THAT IS NOT WORKING AND WANT TO PUT IT INTO ANOTHER INSPIRON 8500 THAT IS THE SAME AS OLD ONE BUT THE NEW COMPUTER DOES NOT HAVE AN OS DO I HAVE TO REINSTALL WIN XP BEFORE CHANGING HD?

If the OS was working on the old computer and the new computer is identical to the old one then a straight swap should do it.

If the OS was not working on the old computer then you would be best reinstalling the OS on the new computer.

Hit the Caps Lock key. All upper-case is considered shouting and is rude and males it difficult to read.

It is possible that it will just work fine.

Possible you may be able to fix it by booting to xp cd and doing a repair.

Possible you need a clean install.

Many other ways to use it.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
