Cd-rom won't stop working after ram upgrade

Specs: Windows XP, celeron/ddr2 512mb
Hi guys,

This is the 2nd time it'd happened to me. The first time with my laptop. After I put in a new ram, the cd-rom won't stop working. The light just keep on blinking and I couldn't do anything with it. At that time, I wasn't aware that it was because of the new ram. But now that the same problem happen to my pc, I am very sure that it is the new ram that causes the problem. So, I put the old one back in and, sure enough, the problem is gone. Does anyone ever have this same problem? Please tell me how you solved it.

Thanks,
Thoom

RAM has nothing to do with the CD drive.

What do you mean by "the cd-rom won't stop working"? Are you able to boot into WIndows with the new RAM in place?

"RAM has nothing to do with the CD drive."

That's what I thought. But, since this is the 2nd time it'd happened, I'm pretty sure that it's the ram that caused the problem.

Everything else in the system works fine. I can boot into Windows. Bios shows that there's an optical drive but the device manager doesn't show a cd-drive. And, the LED in front of the cd-drive keeps blinking as if it's working. I tried pushing the cd-tray eject button but it didn't respond.

Thanks. I tried disconnecting the cd-drive cables and reconnect it. Now, my pc works fine. But, I still have the same problem with my laptop, though. Anybody know how to disassemble a VAIO PCG-FR720S ?
