CD/DVD Drive isn't working properly on Toshiba laptop

January 28, 2017 at 15:49:38
Specs: Windows 7
I have a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5385. I didn't have the need to use the optical CD/DVD drive until after the warranty expired. It will not recognize a cd in the drive. It in not the cd/dvd itself. The ones that I am trying have worked on other computers. Any idea? Possibly some setting that I haven't found? I started with Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit and then upgraded to Windows 10. Same problem with both.

Does the drive show in "Computer"?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I tried, but didn't work. Still just doesn't recognize a disc in the drive. Any other ideas? Maybe best way to go is to purchase an external.

Well it could be faulty hardware so an external might be the best way forward. I would undo any fixes you have tried.

Clean the optical lens with Isopropyl Alcohol with a lint free wipe.

I don't need to be right, but I am never wrong.

Further to #8, if you don't fancy taking the drive apart there are lens cleaning kits around (a CD with brushes on it and cleaning fluid).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
