What do you expect to find on a blank disk?

WinXP does not support writing to DVD media. You need to use a third party burning program.

Are you trying to burn something to a CDR?

A cdrom will always show 0 bytes free space and 0 bytes used for a blank cd-r. (I don't know about cd-r/w disks.) And a burned cd-r will show the used space along with 0 bytes free space.

I did notice a cd burner WILL show the free space on a blank cd-r.

Maybe my wording was not too clear. It does read zero/zero in the properties window but the disk graphic is all blue which means used space. I have a DVD/CD burner program and it was all working fine. My computer crashed and now, DVD or CD doesn't matter. When I put a blank one in the system sees it as disk full even though it is blank and will not allom me to burn or even just copy data like an Excel or Word file.

Everything works except reading a blank disc. I ran a windows fix but that did not help.
