CD Drive isn't working

Specs: XP SP3
My computer reads the CD/DVD drive in the BIOS, and the light comes on when I insert a CD, but when I look for the drive in the explorer window, the drive isn't there. Anyone know how to remedy this?

Go to Start>Run, type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Device Manager appears.

Is there a yellow exclamation mark beside any listing underneath DVD/CD-ROM Drives? Either way, right click the drive if it appears underneath DVD/CD-ROM Drives, and click Uninstall. Click OK on the confirmation box. Restart the computer and Windows will reinstall the drive on the next bootup. Check Windows Explorer again after it reinstalls the drive.
