cd burner not writing

Specs: Windows XP
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. It goes thru write process, but when complete, nothing on cd. Any suggestions??

Did it ever work?

Try to swap out cd writer with known good and re-test.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

What burning program are you using? Have you burned a lot of disks with that drive? You may get by with just cleaning the laser lens. You can buy kits to do that.

It will go thru the burn process....it will say burn complete.....but then nothing on cd

If the laser is burned out or the lens is too dirty (smoky) then the laser can't generate enough power to actually burn the pits into the disk. Have you tried burning at a slower rate. I have to admit I have never used MS burning app.

You could boot to a live usb linux if you had one and test it that way. I would suspect the hardware before the software. They simply go bad and one of the ways is how you described.
