Can't open CD drive on Toshiba laptop

Toshiba /

Specs: Windows XP SP2, .99 RAM
I have looked thru many internet pages to find a solution but nothing has worked so far.
CD Drive of my Toshiba laptop is stuck closed.
I have tried:

1. The paperclip trick
2. right click and eject
3. enable/disable the drive

nothing works.

I have even managed to get the face plate off and to be honest I don't think the thing is locked so paperclip wouldn't have worked.

your gonna tell me it's dead aren't you!?

Hope someone can help!

... even if its "dead" with it's face plate off use something to "push" the metalic "thingy majigg" which should release the mechanism open!

... you may find something jammed in there!

... beer bottle cap(?)

... click >> strip laptop tips wiv pic'c here

... would of helped if you posted make and model numbers!

Sorry thought I had.
It's a very old laptop!

Toshiba Satellite Pro U200

Looking at it. Directly behind where the little hole on the faceplate was, is a small white plasticy bit. It looks down as is and moves up a bit hence why I thought it was unlocked. No metally thingy.
I'll have a look at the pics though and post any findings.

Thanks

Well took it apart.

Came out no problem and can see inside that there is no cd in there. Wasn't sure. Should I be able to pull the tray out once the drive is out.
Had a look. Nothing seems to be stuck. Replaced but still not working.
Just a flashing yellow light like it's thinking about it but then nothing.

At a loss now!

... can you do this? >>> pic here the part behind the button that is pushed to release the mechanism is worth a push or two with the drive removed under a spotlight... Does yours open?

... carefully use a thin screw driver implement to lift/push or pull relevant levers!

Nothing.

The silver 'catch' on the outside of the drive is not in the hole next to it. Does that mean there is no issue there?
Have pushed and prodded a number of times in the gap just to the right of the orange section as per photo but nothing doing!

Thanks for all your replies by the way!

... it should release if poked in the right place unless a spring detatched itself or something is jammed in there!

... I'd say buy a new dvd burner and stick it in there, keep the box and till receipt incase its something else so you can take it back straight away!

Looks like that's the best option.
Thanks again for all the different options given.
