Can't install any Win. O.S. on an HP Laptop

February 25, 2011 at 22:26:31
Specs: Any, AMD/2 GB
I am trying to re-install the O.S. on a HP DV5000 laptop.
It will not take any Windows O.S. It installs part way, and then can't locate files, or usually just blue screens early in the install process. I have tried at least 7 different DVD's of all different Windows flavors. I have done a format each time, and have also switched Hard Drives to eliminate that. HP laptops periodically have this issue I have worked on many. Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you!

If yoiu've tried different disks and a different hard drive then the problem is likely either with the DVD drive or your ram. You should probably download and run memtest:

http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

and see if it finds any problems.

another thing to look at would be the power supply. A failing supply will definitely cause problems

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

You should get NO ERRORS AT ALL when reading files from the CD during Setup. If clicking on Retry or similar does not help...
If you DO / DID get errors, something was not right !

I'll try memtest, I also use Hirens, so I'll see if the RAM is an issue. I forgot to mention that I also did use a an external optical a few times as well.
Thanks for the suggestion.

The error is not at the reading the disk portion, it finishes copying files, and then during windows start up portion of installation is there a blue screen error.
Thanks for the link, I will read it anyway.
