Can't get Window 8 recovery options to work

November 22, 2015 at 12:37:14
Specs: Windows 8
I was doing a factory reinstall and it got turned off. When I booted up the laptop I had , this pc needs to be repaired screen,,hit f8 or enter to retry. Well I've hit those keys a billion times. Okay so then I said I'll just try the reinstall again, but I can't get into bios to change the boot order. Tried f2, f8 and f12 , to many times to count.

Here is what I've done.....

Took out hard drive,,still couldn't get into bios.
Tried switching ram sticks in different slots.
Took out bios battery.
Tried other combos of ,f keys,, but I know those are the ones, cause I have done a factory reinstall on this laptop before.
And I even did those things a billion times too.

I don't know what happened or what else to try.

Dell inspiring 5720
Windows 8
Error code Oxc0000225, which at this point doesn't even matter.

Thanks for any help.

From what I read, you have to change the boot order and that is my problem, I can't into the bios. Did I read it wrong?

The key to access bios setup on that model is F2. Also I believe F12 will directly access the boot order menu. If these keys don't seem to be working just make sure you start tapping one of them as soon as you turn on the computer. Don't hold the key down.

While doing the factory restore were you booting from a restore partition or were you using disks?

I have been in bios, safety mode and f12 boot options before with no problem. But after this ,,I've tried tapping and holding down lol

Yes I was using the disks.

My uncles friend said the hard drive was scrambled and to get a new hard drive. But that wouldn't work, cause I can't change the boot order to use my disks. Would that be correct?

Thanks

Does the keyboard ever work? If not try an external one.

There's been some complaints that that model has a buggy bios:

http://en.community.dell.com/suppor...

(Check the link supplied there in the first response too.) Note those threads are almost 3 years old and Dell may have supplied a bios update since then. If so you might try an upgrade if you can get it to boot from either USB or optical drive.

I'm guessing you were running on the battery rather than AC adapter & the battery ran low during the restore process. How about telling us what you were attempting to fix? It could be a clue to your current problem.

Shut the laptop down completely, then restart & immediately begin tapping the F2 key. BTW, the F8 key will NOT get you into safe mode with Win8.x or Win10.

No it was plugged in, a kid turned it off, he heard me say, I think the reinstall was stuck. He was trying to help, but good thing he is not my kid lol

I've done a factory reinstall so I know how to get in ,,but thanks.

I was having a problem with my CD/DVD drive, it wasn't reading. I did the tests before the recovery screen nightmare started and everything passed, all but the CD drive. So I tried the disk and it worked. But it did get stick,, never had it take so long.

Well I wonder why the ,this pc needs to repaired wants one to hit f8

"but I do not have another computer"
You use a neighbors, family, computer club, social worker, local community center etc to download onto a thumb drive etc & then use on your comp.
