I have an ASUS VG248QE 3d 144hz monitor and it wont allow me to go up to 144hz. I'm only able to go up to 60hz. I've read that only dvi allows up to 144hz and hdmi cant go above 60hz. I'm using the dvi cable that came with the monitor and a dvi to hdmi adapter since my graphics card(strix 2080 ti) only has hdmi ports. What do I need to get for 144hz?
You seem to have read incorrect information about 144hz. Here is a link that explains the capabilities of various monitors, cables, and video ports: https://www.displayninja.com/which-... Note in particular that any DVI/HDMI adapter has to be active (which means it will be relatively expensive). HDMI-HDMI seems to be the best choice if your monitor and graphics card have the appropriate capabilities.

"my graphics card(strix 2080 ti) only has hdmi ports" If the following link is to the correct graphics card, it also has 2 DisplayPorts (1.4).

And from the link posted above by ijack - "DisplayPort is the best choice for connecting a computer to a monitor."
