Specs: Windows 7
I can't burn DVDs by any software, however, any dvd is easily read and Cds can be read and burnt easily. Earlier I was using Windows Vista Ultimate and when this problem continued to trouble me then i switched to Windows 7 by completely formatting my hard disk and STILL the problem isn't solved.

can anybody please help me in this..
thanks in advance!!

So you say you can't burn DVDs. What are the symptoms? Are you not given the option? Are you getting an error? Are the DVDs that come out unreadable?

More information would be helpful. Howeve, I do think you wasted your money on upgrading to Windows 7 (unless it was free). Rarely does installing a new OS fix a hardware related issue.

i have used imageburn and nero. I have even reinstalled them many times All options are provided, it starts the burn process and starts writing lead-in, moves to 1% and then stops. And now it says burn process failed.
the discs that come out after all this are unaffected, they are read easily if i re-insert them. they remain blank. i find it weird that the CDs can be burnt without any problem with the very same soft wares.

It sounds to me like a hardware problem. First thing I would do is go to the manufacturers web site and see if you can find a firmware update. I had a problem with a DVD writer a while back that drove me nuts, and then I found there was a firmware fix for it.

If that doesn't resolve it, see if you can borrow a external or internal DVD burner from a friend. If that device burns DVDs fine, then it's your drive. DVD Burners are cheap nowadays, so if you find it is bad, just replace it.
