If possible check the printer's manual to see if that flashing pattern points to a particular problem.

Don't forget to preorder your Hatch green chili for this fall. Many vendors ship world-wide. Better hurry. They're picking and shipping now.

The Printer is a Canon pixma iP4300. I found some info to indicate that five flash meant that the printer head was not installed. After cleaning thoroughly (without getting the electrical contacts wet) I thought it may be electrical connectivity issue, so I cleaned both sets of contacts with electro cleaning solvent. No difference!

It's possible that the print head has failed although the symptoms of this are usually streaky prints. It would be a pity to buy one only to find it makes no difference.

It's equally possible that there is a fault with the printer itself although my best guess is still the head, in view of the initial quality issue and the error message.
