Look at the link below. F8 doesn't appear to be the correct keystroke/s.

Why don't you make the restore set. If the hard drive craps out you won't be able to restore it without those disks.

Format/reformat means to wipe the drive clean & setup a new file system (usually NTFS or FAT32). The drive can then be used for storage or a new operating system can be installed. What are you going to do after you reformat? You will need the Windows disc or the set of recovery discs.

Did you do as explained in the link provided by OtheHill? Click on START, then type Toshiba Recovery in the search box?

Did you get the laptop new?

Click on the link below and read Chapter 1 of the users guide. Pg 58 describes how to make the hard drive recovery disks.

The second link below is to the site where you can buy those disks instead.

You tried WHAT?

Answer ALL questions. They are asked for a reason. Did you buy the computer new? Did you change the version of Windows at any point?

Did you click on the first link in #5 post above and read the users guide as suggested. That tells you EXACTLY how to do things.

Left click on the purple link below. After the link opens click on the Grey box that says User’s Guide. Then click on Chapter 1: Getting Started. Scroll down to Page 57, Hard drive recovery utilities. Follow the instructions there.

Then use the other link to buy a set of recovery/restore disks from Toshiba. The instructions indicate that it may not work for all models.

Looks like you could go to Windows 7 for $29.99. You might want to call the number at the link to ask if you can do that. They have both Vista and Windows 7 disks listed as available for that model.
