There's probably other ways but this should work. First do you have the full version 5.0 disks in case it doesn't?

If yes then boot up with the first 6.22 disk and exit the installation. At the dos prompt type:

attrib -s -h -r c:\msdos.sys and enter. Then
attrib -s -h -r c:\io.sys and enter. Then
del c:\msdos.sys and enter. Then
del c:\io.sys and enter. Then
del c:\command.com and enter. Then
ren c:\config.sys config.old and enter. Then
ren c:\autoexec.bat autoexec.old and enter.

That deletes the dos 5 system files and renames your existing config.sys and autoexec.bat. I'm not sure if it's necessary but for good measure delete the dos directory:

del c:\dos\*.* and enter. Then
rd c:\dos and enter.

Then restart the 6.22 installation or reboot and let it start.

If you don't have the dos 5 disks then do the above at your own risk--but it should work. Or others may post in with other advice.

I just noticed you listed your OS as Vista/Dos 5.0. Is your dos installation some kind of dos box or virtual set up? My above post assumed a pure-dos-only set up.

You're welcome. Depending on the specs of the 6.22 machine you may want to run MEMMAKER to optimize memory in the lower 640K. If so, and you want to load a mouse driver or cdrom support, do that first and then run memmaker. Post back if you have further questions about setting it up.

All kinds of files like ega.sys exist in DOS so DOS would work with hardware of the day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanc...

In C:\DOS type help memmaker for a good explaination. While you're at it, live a little and type help ega.sys or just help.

Gotta assume you haven't used DOS much.

While it is true that except for a ffew things that DOS itself has
no deivers. Drivers were designed as an addin to the application.
You have printer drivers for the word processorr and separate
print driver for the spreadsheet. Displays were in character mode
usually 25 lines by 80 characters. A graphic display was
controlled by the application.
